Need for Speed: The Run [X360]

I've always liked the NFS series but this one makes me think twice before I'd buy another game.

Summary

So NFS The Run...Kinda wish I waited to buy this. I've always liked the NFS series except for the Shifts and Pro Street well and this one too. There are good points to this game but they are hidden by all the bad.

First are the good points.

The car graphics are ok and about the same of Hot Pursuit

Can change the rims and body style

Ok story

Now for the bad

The cars handle like a tank (easy, normal, hard it doesn't matter)

The rewind gets very annoying when you get off the road and you have to sit through a loading screen

These mob and cop events get old fast and really doesn't fit in a car racing game

The AI drivers get annoying with sudden bursts of speed and the damn traffic. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing NFS world again.

Drifting it..it...they finally get it right in Hot Pursuit then lose it in The Run. I mean a rock drifts better than the cars in this game.

So at the end this, The Run misses the mark by a lot. I can only hope that EA will go back to the Undergrounds time. Please stop making bad sims.

Summary

REALLY, Ok I am not go into any ungodly amount of detail..

Give you a little bit of back ground; I have played just about every Need for Speed since it came out. The exception being the Porsche copy (not a fan of Porsche) , and the shift series ( if I want to play a game that plays like Forza,, I would rather play Forza). I was apprehensive when I played the demo, and with good reason. I was aware some of the tracks from Hot Pursuit were from the original Hot pursuit (old heads –us over 30- should know).
I know its suppose to be some big informative post on pros and cons, but I will some it up it with one statement.
…….It plays like Prostreet… nuff said.
A few may be overjoyed, but the ones who "get it" understand. Seriously how hard would it to been to use Hot pursuits psysics??? Take a look at Test Drive 2, EA They screwed up a great game. I don't think they are going to have a lot of fans on the next Test Drive if its even made. But then again you may be taking a cue from Activations' play book, rehashing old crap. Decent story line won't always save crappy mechanics.

The short Run gets over in a heartbeat, a wild goose chase

Summary

Every year EA releases Need for Speed franchise racing game but since two or three years I feel like playing burnout racing game rather than a NFS racing game! Has EA lost their confidence in making a Good NFS racing game & going for copy paste from Burnout series? I will start the review with good points of game & so on….
Good:
The Run concept a new concept implemented, broken into stages. The game involves gaining positions during the race, make up time race (beat the time), challenge the opponent min 3 at a time & 1v1.
Run down the hill was the best race in the game where avalanche occurs during the race.
The Run, I would say was a good marketing strategy creating excitement for gamers. Reset introduced.

Bad:
Here we go.. Graphics nope I thought playing another version of burnout series.
Car rendering same as hot pursuit no difference at all. The game is very short.
No free roam, no customization.

Worse:
Controls no no …….…bad!!
Can drive only few cars in The Run campaign (I used only about 5)
Reset .. Every time car goes off the road it resets automatically, do racers drive in that discipline??(Almost 90 resets)
Graphics too much detailed that nothing seems good besides our car while racing. The opponent cars are not even visible some times.
Can't change the car after the race!!! Or in garage.

Funny:
The cut scenes, why don't they just show them?? Why do we have to press some buttons for such stupid actions like for getting out of the car & for running lol.
The AI is terrible. The opponent waits for me if I have messed up in the race & lets me win the race. They just move in a straight line…no overtake no dirty passing nothing numm AI.
The car speed ROFL!! Very slow the speedometer shows 100km/hr but car moves like 10km/hr. I suppose NFS is known for its speed.
Cops they align themselves before us along the road. The cops chasing us do nothing but racing with us.
The camera angles are same as in hot pursuit 2010 & burnout series. Even the 1st screen that appears on starting the game is same as in hot pursuit with same music. Same wrecked cut scenes.
Can change the car only during the race at gas station seriously??? IN the Race?? That too, available only in few races.
The tasks such as avoid gunfire from helicopter & from other cars & cut scenes where there are blasts & accidents feels like a Hollywood chasing scene rather than a game.

So EA has focused on other things rather than game physics for the Run.

Meh, Not What I Expected, But Passable

Summary

Good:
-Great selection of cars.
-Gorgeous environments.
-Lots of Challenges.
-Some cutscenes are amusing to watch.
-Controls aren't too terribly bad.
-Difficulty is just right.

Bad:
-Too many load screens.
-Lengthy load times.
-Reset Screens are tedious to sit through.
-Story mode can be beaten in about 3 hours or less.
-Races start to feel the same after a while.
-Cop chases and story are hit or miss. (Just another guy who borrows money from the mob and is unable to pay them back so he has to perform in a cross country race from San Francisco to New York to raise money to pay back the mob.)
-AI can be stupid at times.
-Only being able to change cars at gas stations rather than before and after races.
-Some roads are narrow to navigate.

Overall, this game is a mixed bag. It's at least where one can try it out to see if they like it or not. Let it pass.

One of the most disappointing games I have ever played on.

1.0

Abysmal
Difficulty:
Hard
Time Spent:
10 Hours or Less
The Bottom Line:
"Disastrous"

Summary

The reason why it's so disappointing is because the game isn't what you would expect from the NFS series, no serious car modding no circuit race's and no fun at all.
It's just gone far too serious and off the rail, by this I mean the escape sequence's where you're bashing different button's running from mobsters or the police or a deranged psychotic dog with rabies, which is really annoying and quite hard even on easy difficulty. As for the racing it's just the same stuff, different terrain that is over populated by some, well, idiotic drivers and in my opinion the game is rigged to total your car (try undertaking a car or van on blind bend or hill where you can't see what's coming and 9 times out of 10 you will total your car because of an oncoming vehicle after this the restart sequence begins and after a while it will seriously annoy with how long it takes to restart your race and how far back it takes you.
When your eventually ahead in a race it's ridiculous how quickly the opposition drivers catch up with you and how fast their cars are going but what else do you expect from EA, they are famous for their Computer catch up game play.
I am only 10% through the game and I am struggling to put the game in my Xbox over the likes of Saints Row The Third and FIFA 12, The Run just doesn't have anything that makes you excited to play on it over boredom, in fact it just frustrates you and makes you even more bored! I think I will eventually finish the game and I will probably update this review.
I will just finish by telling you, don't waste your money, if you want a NFS game buy most wanted, brilliant game.
